Maruti Suzuki has been quite generous with the ‘Vitara’ moniker in the Indian market with as many as 4 different versions of it so far.
Maruti is the country’s largest car manufacturer, therefore it has a wide range of products. Products changed from time to time in response to changing client demands. After being dropped from the current-generation Brezza, the future Toyota HyRyder-based mid-size SUV will be known as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Here is a list of 4 Maruti Suzuki SUVs that used the ‘Vitara’ nameplate.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Evolution
1. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7 (2003-2007)
Back in 2003, the Grand Vitara XL7 was the first SUV Maruti delivered to India with a V6 engine. It has a 2.7-liter V6 engine that produces 183 horsepower and 244 Newton-meters of torque. This engine was paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The main draw of this SUV was its shift-on-the-fly 4WD technology, which greatly enhanced its appeal.
2. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara (2009-2015)
This next Grand Vitara actually had a ton of buyers and was quite popular despite its steep price. It came with a 2.4-litre petrol engine that churned out 163 hp and 225 Nm of peak power and torque. There were options of a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. It also came with the option of an all-wheel-drive to accentuate its off-roading credentials.
3. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (2016-2022)
The last-generation compact SUV was known as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, but it is now simply known as the Brezza. It has a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 103 horsepower and 137 Nm of peak power and torque. Initially, there was a 5-speed manual, a 4-speed automatic, and a 6-speed automatic in the current-generation car.
4. Maruti Suzuki Grand Brezza (2022)
Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming mid-size SUV will be known as the Grand Vitara. It will be based on the recently launched Toyota HyRyder and will compete with vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The petrol engine of the Hyryder is a 1.5-litre mild hybrid and a 1.5-litre strong hybrid. The mild hybrid engine will be sourced from Maruti and will produce 102 horsepower and 137 Nm of peak torque with an AWD drivetrain, while the strong hybrid engine will be obtained from Toyota and will produce 116 hp with an electric motor and a Li-Ion battery pack.
