Mercedes-Benz India will formally launch the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series in India on March 17, 2025. The premium roadster had its international debut in August 2024 and is said to be the sportiest Maybach model ever produced.
Mercedes-Maybach SL 680: design and interior
The SL 680 enhances the intimidating appearance of the basic SL Roadster with certain distinguishing Maybach features, the most visible of which is the traditional grille with thin, lighted vertical slats. Lower down, the front bumper has a less aggressive appearance than the SL Roadster and is decorated with chrome. The soft roof, like the bonnet, is finished in Obsidian Black and patterned with Maybach emblems. Elsewhere, the Maybach SL 680 is painted Garnet Red.
The SL 680’s wheels have a bespoke multi-spoke design, as is typical of Maybach, and the wing mirrors are black. The SL 680’s rear bumper, like the front, softens the aggressiveness of the SL Roadster with a smoother, more chrome-embellished appearance.
On the inside, the SL 680 exudes richness with its white Nappa leather seats and console, satin silver finish on the AC vents, new three-spoke steering wheel, and Maybach insignia on the roll hoops. Mercedes has also modified the SL 680’s exhaust system to be quieter than that of the SL Roadster in order to reduce cabin noise, and the suspension has been designed to be more comfortable for passengers.
Mercedes-Maybach SL 680: powertrain
While the Maybach’s design sacrifices the athletic attributes of the ordinary SL Roadster, the SL 680 is nevertheless powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 585hp and 800Nm of torque, 109hp and 50Nm more than the SL 55. The unit transmits power to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.
It remains to be seen how Mercedes-Benz would price the Maybach SL 680 in India. The SL 55 Roadster presently sells for Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom), therefore we expect the Maybach SL 680 to cost significantly more.
