Bentley Continental GT Speed Hit 216 MPH On The Autobahn [Video]

The W12, considered a dinosaur in the modern car industry of downsizing, is on its way to a well-earned retirement as Bentley will switch to all-electric vehicles by 2030. Given how easily it propels a luxobarge weighing more than 5,000 lbs (almost 2,300 kg) to supercar speeds, the 6.0-liter engine is still a force to be reckoned with. The leather-lined British missile can be seen going all out on the Autobahn in a recent film with the Continental GT Speed.

With a colossal 650 horsepower and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque on tap, the twin-turbo coupe from Crewe gained speed without breaking a sweat. Just as impressive is how the Conti GT Speed remains perfectly stable and comfortable even when it’s about to max out the speedometer. Speaking of which, it got up to 347 km/h (216 mph), which is actually slightly higher than Bentley’s quoted top speed of 335 km/h (208 mph).

There’s something visceral about a W12, even though some high-end EVs are already quicker in terms of acceleration and will soon match an ICE’s top speed. The vehicle in issue also has a titanium exhaust that was created by Akrapovic and Bentley to improve the sound of the 6.0-liter engine. Not only does it weigh 7 kilos (15 pounds) less than the stock exhaust, but it also significantly enhances output by 4% to extract those powerful 650 horses.

The most current modification to the Continental GT Mulliner’s engine allows it to accelerate from a stop to 60 mph in under three and a half seconds. Rich individuals may soon be able to purchase a Continental with only half the cylinders, as the plug-in hybrid is anticipated to use a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 from the electrified Flying Spur.

A Bentley model with zero cylinders will follow in 2025 as the brand’s first EV, complete with roughly 1,400 hp and aĀ 0-60 mph sprint in 1.5 seconds.
