As part of its Skill India initiative, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) unveiled its student car project for 2024. The project car is a unique concept pickup truck created by combining the C-segment SUV Volkswagen Taigun with the C-segment sedan Volkswagen Virtus. Crafted over a nine-month period by mechatronics students undergoing dual vocational training, the pickup vehicle idea is not only handsome and production-ready, but also incredibly appealing. This comes after the 2023 student vehicle project, the Skoda Rapid Cabriolet.
The project was developed in numerous phases. Students worked under the supervision of SAVWIPL specialists to complete the project, which included finalizing the automobile concept and collecting ideas, as well as doing market analysis, research and development, procurement, packing, and final car testing. In addition to using 3D printed components, the students gave the exhibition car off-road ready features including studded tires, underbody protection, ambient lighting, and unique lights installed on the roof.
This project is one of the steps the automaker has taken in response to the Union Budget 2024 announcements, which highlight the government’s emphasis on young skill development. Launched in 2011, this full-time, 3.5-year Dual Vocational Training program is based on the German vocational paradigm. Under the Skoda Academy, Skoda has an Azubi Student Car Project operating worldwide. Through the “Skill India” project, SAVWIPL also hopes to provide the same caliber of training to its Vocational Schools across the nation.
