5 Upcoming Off-Road SUVs For Enthusiasts In India

SUVs have become extremely popular in India these days, thanks to the practicality and technology on offer, even on the entry-level models. Interestingly, off-road SUVs have also been gaining decent momentum in recent years, and a few more offroad-focussed SUVs are slated to launch in our market soon.

Here, we have listed five upcoming SUVs that are worth considering if you are an off-road enthusiast planning to buy a new car in the near future.

1. Mahindra Scorpio-N

On June 27, the next-generation Mahindra Scorpio, dubbed ‘Scorpio-N,’ will go on sale in India. The new model will be available with either a 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, both with manual or automatic transmissions. On various models, a 4×4 drivetrain will be available, and the SUV will be built on a tough ladder-frame base.

2. Mahindra Thar 5-Door

M&M is also working on a Thar with a long wheelbase and five doors, which is slated to debut in late 2023 or early 2024. The 5-door variant will be substantially larger than the present 3-door model, and the two will most likely share a lot of design elements. The engine options will be the same – 2.0L gasoline and 2.2L diesel – but modified to produce additional power.

3. Force Gurkha 5-Door

The 5-door version of the Gurkha will be released soon by Force Motors, and it has already been spotted on the road a few times. The five-door Gurkha will be much larger than the three-door variant, and it will most likely be a three-row SUV. It’ll probably be powered by the same 2.6-liter diesel engine as the current 3-door model, with a low-ratio transfer case and manual locking differentials on both axles.

4. Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Next year, Maruti Suzuki plans to debut the Jimny in India. The 3-door variant of the little off-road SUV is already being produced in India for export markets. The Indo-Japanese automaker will soon release a 5-door version of the SUV, which will come in 5-seat and 7-seat variants.

5. Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep is a vehicle manufacturer noted for its tough, off-road-capable vehicles. The new Grand Cherokee, which will be a premium, luxury model, will be launched in India later this year. Under the hood of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine linked to an 8-speed automated transmission and 4-wheel drive.
