With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Eastern Europe has been plunged into a battle unlike any seen in the region since World War II. The crisis has reached a point where automakers are beginning to offer aid to the Ukrainian people. Torsus, on the other hand, is a manufacturer with a presence in Ukraine.
Torsus specialises in some of the most extreme off-road buses and RVs on the market. You’re probably familiar with the Praetorian, whether as a snow-free school bus or an overlanding vehicle with extraordinary off-grid potential thanks to its MAN foundations. The Terrastorm is a smaller off-road van from the firm that uses a Volkswagen platform as a base for a more manageable 4×4 van.
Torsus was founded in 2016 and is based in Czechia (specifically, Prague), although it also has offices and facilities in Ukraine. Torsus gave the globe an update on its personnel caught in the thick of this awful fight on February 27. Fortunately, the corporation claims that its employees and their families are unharmed.
Of course, many people throughout the country cannot say the same. Mercedes-Benz supports the people of Ukraine both in spirit and financially, according to our Motor1.com colleagues in Italy. The manufacturer posted a simple white photograph to Instagram on February 25 with the caption “For what matters most: peace.” In addition, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius announced a €1 million commitment to the Red Cross, primarily for help to Ukraine, on LinkedIn.
Meanwhile in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen Group also pledged a €1 million donation. Taking to Twitter, the company announced it would make the donation to the United Nations Refugee Agency, directed to helping the situation in Ukraine. VW CEO Herbert Diess shared the announcement through his LinkedIn account as well.
On the manufacturing side, Reuters reports that Volvo has suspended all vehicle exports to Russia. In addition, AB Volvo has suspended production and sales in Russia. This follows similar moves last week from Daimler and Renault, freezing business activities or halting production in the country.
