Leaving children in cars unattended while guardians run errands is common practise all over the world. Many will be found guilty if strictly checked, despite the fact that no one appears to come under any form of scrutiny. The Abu Dhabi police, on the other hand, are taking this very seriously. Officials have stated that if children are left unattended in a vehicle, a fine of 5,000 Dirham (approximately 1.8 lakh) will be imposed.

Parents have been advised not to leave their children in cars unattended for even a few minutes. Officials reiterated that this is a legal offence. The Abu Dhabi police have reported a number of incidents in which children left unsupervised in cars suffered from severe medical conditions, including death in a few cases, as a result of suffocation or heat stroke, especially in hot weather.
According to Stanford University School of Medicine research, even on a relatively cool day, the temperature inside a car can rise at a faster rate. If a car is parked in direct sunlight for one hour and the temperature outside is at least 35 degrees Celsius, the temperature inside can reach 47 degrees Celsius.

According to Dubai Police data, 53 children were left alone in vehicles in 2020, with four cases reported each month. In the first seven months of last year, 39 children were rescued after being left in locked vehicles. In addition to this rule, the UAE has the authority to penalise if children are found to be in danger under Federal Law No. 3 of 2016. The Wadima Law is the name given to this law. Neglecting children in any form is a punishable offence that can result in hefty fines or even a prison sentence.
