Volkswagen has a habit of releasing one-offs built by its apprentices, but the majority of them are based on the Golf GTI and R hot hatchbacks. Their most recent project is significantly different because the donor vehicle was a purely electric SUV – the ID.5. It retains some sporting credentials, as the GTX variant boasts nearly 300 horsepower and all-wheel drive provided by a pair of electric motors.
The ID.5 Xcite is a one-of-a-kind design that follows the ID. Xtreme, which was unveiled as a GTX-based off-roader last week. Going back in time, VW also unveiled an ID.X last year as a sportier take on the ID.3, which will be available in the near future. Getting back to the concept at hand, it was developed over the course of one year by 14 apprentices who created a special paint job with matte and gloss finishes borrowed from VW and Lamborghini.
The ID.5 GTX is equipped with newly developed 22-inch forged alloy wheels with powder-coated rims. Other changes include wider door sills, modified wheelhouses, and different front and rear fenders. It has also been brought closer to the road, and the VW badges have been blacked out to match the other dark body accents.

Inside, Alcantara and vegan leather were used to spruce up the cabin, which includes an upgraded sound system with 2,000 watts of power and no less than 10 amplifiers. After parking, you can use the trunk-mounted electric skateboard to get to your destination.

Every year since 2014, with the exception of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, apprentices from the three Saxony locations have modified a Zwickau-made car.
