Richard Hammond & James May Reunite After A Scandi Flick Crash

A Scandi Flick is the most recent Grand Tour special, in which Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May drive rally-inspired cars through Scandanavia. It was an exciting adventure. While traveling at 75 miles per hour, May crashed his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII into a tunnel wall (121 kilometers per hour). In this video, the guys discuss how the cars performed on the trip.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May are all technically present. However, because Clarkson is in the trunk of his RS4, we only get the perspective of the Hamster and Captain Slow.

If you haven’t seen May’s crash, watch it below. To summarize, he was speeding down a dark tunnel when he braked too late. He spun the car 90 degrees and slammed into a wall on the driver’s side. May was able to get out of the car on her own. EMTs rushed him to an ambulance to check on his condition. They took him to the hospital to make sure he didn’t have any more serious injuries.

May explains in this video that he was going so fast because he wanted to win the challenge. He realized he was going too fast and tried to avoid colliding with the camera crew or Clarkson.

The Evo’s damage was severe enough that the car had to be written off due to the twisted chassis. During filming, the crew used a hydraulic ram to move the engine about 3.0 inches (7.62 centimeters). They were able to make the car driveable again for the remainder of the shoot.

Hammond is in the market for a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. He adores it. He says in the video that the plan is to modify the car to produce ridiculous power. (zgardensantamonica.com) May, on the other hand, tries to talk him out of it by claiming that Subaru Tecnica International spent countless hours developing the vehicle.

Clarkson’s RS4 receives little attention from the guys. According to them, the Evo and STI are closely related to rally cars. In contrast, there isn’t much that connects this Audi to the ones that competed in the 1980s.
