Mitsubishi is preparing to reveal the most recent update to its midsize pickup truck, the L200/Triton, also known as the Strada in some markets. The current fifth-generation model has been on the market for nearly a decade and is clearly due for replacement.
The new-generation model was teased as the Mitsubishi XRT Concept a few days ago at the Bangkok International Motor Show. However, it appears to be a thinly wrapped prototype with production panels in place, with the camouflage wrap obscuring details. Our Kolesa friends attempt to unwrap the concept in order to reveal the production model.
That’s because Mitsubishi Ralliart will debut a prototype of the new L200/Triton in the 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), providing off-road enthusiasts with a taste of what’s to come. Last year, Team Mitsubishi Ralliart finished first in the AXCR.
Mitsubishi hasn’t revealed any technical details, but it has stated that the model will be powered by a next-generation diesel engine, with the option of electrification.
According to reports, the next-generation model will share a heavily updated ladder-frame chassis with the redesigned Nissan Navara midsize truck. Both trucks will almost certainly get a longer wheelbase and a larger bed.
The new L200/Triton will be introduced in Thailand in fiscal year 2023, with other regions following suit. But that’s not all Mitsubishi has planned; the company is also working on an all-electric pickup truck that will be available between 2025 and 2028. During this time, a new-generation midsize SUV based on the pickup, known as the Pajero Sport/Montero Sport, will also be revealed.
All of this information was revealed in the Japanese automaker’s new product roadmap for 2028.
