Will Upcoming Tata Sierra Petrol Get 4X4?

Tata SUVs were formerly renowned for their toughness and off-road prowess. Tata SUVs now on the market feel sturdy to drive, but none of them have 4X4 or AWD technology. Having said that, the company should consider bringing back its recognizable SUV and all-out 4X4 hardware! Indeed, Tata Motors plans to resurrect the Sierra nameplate, possibly with a serious 4X4 package!

Tata Motors has introduced the new Curvv EV and Curvv gasoline/diesel SUVs. Whereas the ICE versions are built on the new Atlas platform, the EV versions are built on the Acti.ev platform. The upgraded X1 platform from Nexon, which can support SUVs up to 4.7 meters in length, is the new Atlas platform. Nevertheless, the company even stated that modifications to the new platform might enable it to support a real SUV! This implies that up to 20-inch alloy wheels and 4X4 hardware may be installed on the Atlas chassis.

For the Tata Sierra, it is the next SUV built on the Atlas chassis. The 2023 Auto Expo saw the debut of the redesigned Sierra concept, which incorporates design cues from the previous model. Additionally, the previous Sierra was renowned for its 4X4 capabilities, which the new model may also include. Having said that, Tata may think about releasing the Sierra in India with a 4X4 option if consumer demand warrants it!

There will be more SUVs with off-road capabilities besides the Sierra. Tata will introduce the electric Tata Harrier, the company’s premier five-seater, well in advance of the new Sierra. It is expected that the Harrier EV will debut in early 2025 or by the end of current year. Tata Motors has already said that the SUV will have a dual electric motor system in the Harrier EV, enabling AWD capabilities. In general, Tata enthusiasts are hopeful that the company would bring back 4X4 SUVs so they may explore India’s off-road routes! However, the brand will only think about supplying it if there is a significant enough market need!
