We usually hear the words like turbo or turbo charged in the cars. Nowadays many car brands are launching vehicles with turbocharged engine. If you want to increase the power output of your naturally aspirated engine, then you can do it by providing it with more air by force induction. However, this can be done by two ways, one is with a turbocharger and the other is Supercharger. There are limited numbers of cars in India which come with a supercharger.
Difference between TurboCharged and SuperCharged
However, both things are present to increase the amount of air in the combustion chamber. But, there construction, design and working principle differ from each other. Turbocharger works with the help of exhaust gases while supercharger is connected to the crankshaft by a belt pulley. Supercharged has many advantages compared to turbocharger like it provides you an instant boost and power delivery. Also, there is no turbo lag in supercharger. You can see the turbocharger on the hood in Dom Toretto’s car in the movie Fast and Furious, but usually, it is present under the hood. In India, supercharger is present only in high end and famous cars. In this blog, we’ve made a list of cars with supercharger running on the streets of India.
1. Audi S5 Sportback
In 2016, the German automaker tried creating a supercharged sportback car and it was Audi S5 Sportback. The vehicle has a 3.0 Litre supercharged petrol engine. Furthermore, many design elements were borrowed from S4 and S6 models. The engine generates 328 BHP horsepower and 440 Nm torque. It is further paired with a 7 speed transmission and it’s sold in India at an ex-showroom price of 79 Lakh INR.
2. Jaguar F type
In last year 2020, Jaguar launched its more appealing and more aggressive F type coupe in India with its basic dna of first model. The vehicle runs on a 5.0 Litre supercharged petrol engine and generated 575 HP and 700 Nm of torque. Furthermore, it has a 8 speed transmission system and can whip from 0 to 100 in just 3.7 seconds. The price of the F type ranges from 96 Lakh to 2.5 Crore INR.
3. Range Rover Autobiography SV
The autobiography is the most luxurious SUV of the British manufacturer Range Rover. The SV is the world’s longest and widest stock SUV which makes it even more special. It’s selling point is the vehicle’s luxury, but in addition, it has a powerful powertrain. Under the hood lies a 5.0 Litre supercharged V8 engine which produces 543 HP and 682 Nm of torque. Furthermore, it is sold in India at a price of whopping 4.05 Crore INR.
4. Range Rover Sport SVR
Another beautiful piece of engineering from the British manufacturer and producer is equipped with a supercharger under its hood. The engine is borrowed from the Jaguar F type as both the brands belong to the same company. Hence, it has the same power output as Jaguar F type. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.3 seconds making it the quickest SUV in the world. It’s price in India is 2.05 Crore INR.
5. Jaguar XF V8
Possibly the most affordable car in our list is the Jaguar XF. Jaguar produced the 5.0 Litre supercharged Sedan XF V8. The vehicle was sold at a price point of 83.95 Lakh INR. The engine produced 503 HP and 625 Nm of horsepower and torque respectively.
6. Volvo XC 90
Last car in our list in which the supercharger is available in its stocked form, is produced by the swedish automaker Volvo. With its 2.0 Litre supercharged + turbocharged engine. Both supercharger and turbocharger in the same engine are used in race car which helps to boost power in both low and high rpm. The engine is capable of producing 407 BHP and 640 Nm of horsepower and torque.
