Mercedes C55 AMG Wagon Achieved 155 MPH In Winter on Autobahn
AMG versions of the compact car were introduced in 2005 with the W203 Mercedes-Benz C-Class mid-cycle facelift. It made it possible for Mercedes to deploy the new 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 from Affalterbach, which was an advancement of the eight-pot mill used in the previous E-Class, from C32 to C55.
At the time and for its class, the C55 AMG’s V8 produced respectable outputs of 362 horsepower (270 kilowatts) and 380 pound-feet (510 Newton-meters) of torque. AMG Speedshift was used on a five-speed automatic transmission to send these numbers to the wheels.
The C55 AMG could sprint from zero to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometres per hour) in 4.7 seconds thanks to its excellent performance figures at the time. Electronic limits kept the top speed at 155 mph (250 km/h).
A C55 AMG Wagon stretched its ten-year-old legs on the unrestricted German Autobahn in this top-speed run video provided by AutoTopNL. Despite the fact that it appeared to be a frigid day, the long-roof rocket persisted. In reality, in one of its numerous attempts, it hit the factory-specified top speed, with the GPS recording 250 km/h.
This car’s limiter has already been unlocked, so it seems like it can do more.
The C55 AMG Wagon’s owner said that it was equipped with a pair of winter tyres that could only travel up to 149 mph (240 km/h). On summer tyres, the owner claimed it could travel at 180 mph (290 km/h).
We can’t be certain if this is true or not. But one thing is certain: despite its age, the C55 AMG is still a powerful vehicle to own and is definitely one of the best Mercedes C-Class models you should be on the lookout for on the used car market. When purchasing one, just make sure the engine is in excellent condition.
