Volkswagen announced that the ID.4 electric crossover will serve as the foundation for the company’s electric mobility strategy in India during the launch of the brand-new Virtus sedan. Following through on its promises, it appears that Volkswagen is moving in the right direction as a test mule for the ID.4 was recently spotted by EVO India conducting test drives on the roads of India.
Volkswagen ID.4’s top-spec GTX test mule was recently spotted with Indian licence plates, indicating that the model is in the final stages of testing in that country. This test mule had dual-tone red and black paint and was equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels. The ID.4’s wide-spread daytime running LED at the front and tail light bar at the back are among the other design highlights that are identical to those of the global-spec model. The ID.4 has a closed front grille, sharply raked rear glass, and pop-up door handles like Volkswagen’s other all-electric ID models.
The interior of the new Volkswagen ID.4 for India is anticipated to be identical to the global-spec model’s current interior design and features. The spy photos reveal a completely new Volkswagen interior with features like a contemporary multifunctional steering wheel, a more streamlined dashboard, and a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. The instrument console also has a full-TFT display unit, which is different from the ones in Taigun and Virtus right now in terms of appearance.

Additionally, the Volkswagen ID.4 for India will have color-coded interior trims that can be completely customised based on the preferences of the owner. The India-spec model is likely to include features like ambient lighting, leather upholstery, 12-way power front seats, and three-zone automatic climate control.
The Volkswagen ID.4’s top-spec GTX variant, which has an all-wheel-drive system with an electric motor on each of the front and rear axles, was spotted on Indian roads. This model has a 77 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 334–463 kilometres. The Volkswagen ID.4 in this particular variation is also compatible with DC ultra-fast charging techniques, allowing for a 35-minute fast charge. To keep the starting prices low, the lower rear-wheel-drive versions might also be offered for sale.
Similar to Volkswagen’s past exclusive products like the Polo GTI and T-Roc, the new ID.4 will debut in India in limited quantities as a CBU offering. Expect the new ID.4 to be competitive with other electric vehicles like the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
