We came across the following dashcam video while browsing Reddit’s IdiotInCars thread, which shows one motorist avoiding a red light. While clearly illegal, we suspect that this video may encourage other drivers to do the same.
At 6:27 a.m., the cameraman is patiently waiting at a traffic light when a silver Range Rover appears. The Range Rover driver then proceeds to turn right at the red light, which is perfectly legal in the United States. The Range Rover driver, on the other hand, pulls a sneaky U-turn and ends up in the right lane of the road with the green light. They then proceed to turn right back onto the road with the red light, obviating the need to stop and wait for the light to turn green.
The manoeuvre has received a lot of attention on Reddit, with over 46,000 upvotes on the original post. Many people praised the driver’s ingenuity, with one user remarking that the driver had essentially treated the intersection like a roundabout.
Obviously, avoiding a red light like this in broad daylight would draw a lot of unwanted attention, prompting some Redditors to suggest that it should only be considered late at night or very early in the morning.
