The Audi R8, whose time has come, is leaving on a high note. The most powerful rear-wheel-drive Audi of them all is the 2023 R8 GT RWD, which will cost a quarter of a million dollars to purchase in the US.
More specifically, in the US, the 2023 Audi R8 GT starts at $249,900. The amount increases to $251,395 when the $1,495 destination fee for Audi is included. The R8’s long life will undoubtedly come to an expensive end, but even if you have the money to buy one, your garage might remain empty. Only 150 of the 333 are expected to be produced globally and arrive in the United States.

How much do you receive for that? When the R8 GT made its premiere in October, we were exposed to it and its 602-horsepower 5.2-liter V10 engine. Shortly before Thanksgiving, we took it for a special first drive. It draws heavily from the R8 LMS racecar and is 55 pounds lighter than that vehicle, allowing it to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds – provided the rear wheels have traction. In order to make the most of that traction—or lack thereof, if the driver feels like doing some R8 drifting—a new Torque Rear mode has been added. The proud 199 mph top speed pulls up just short of 200.
The R8 GT gets a few unique characteristics for the US market. Inlays for the door sills, side blades, and external mirror housings are made of carbon, and a sport exhaust system gives the V10 a new voice. A Bang & Olufsen stereo, a diamond-stitched headliner, and other items can be found inside.

When the R8 GT reaches US dealers in early 2023, it will embody the legacy of two R8 generations spanning 16 years. Launching in 2006 as a 2007 model, it first hit the scene with a 4.2-liter V8 making 414 hp. The 5.2-liter V10 arrived for the 2009 model year, upping the ante to 525 hp. The first Audi R8 GT debuted for 2011, generating 552 hp sent to all four wheels.
