The Tata Nexon has achieved yet another significant milestone, reaching 6 lakh units in production. This figure includes the Tata Nexon EV and the internal combustion engine (ICE) sub-4m SUV. The 5-lakh unit threshold was exceeded in the first half of 2023.
In just six months after its September 2017 launch, Tata had sold over 25,000 of its first sub-4 million SUV. In the middle of 2019, the Nexon reached the production milestone of one lakh units.
The automaker debuted the redesigned SUV in the beginning of 2020 along with its all-electric variant, which went on to become India’s best-selling electric vehicle month after month. It only took the Nexon two years, between 2021 and 2023, to go from the 2-lakh units production milestone to the 5-lakh level. Tata released a second, thorough update for the Nexon’s ICE and EV variants in September 2023.
Tata Nexon Powertrain
There are two engine options available for the Tata Nexon: a 1.5-liter diesel engine (115 PS/260 Nm) and a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol (120 PS/170 Nm). The diesel engine is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT, while the former has four gearbox options: a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, and a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT).
Tata Nexon EV Battery
In the meanwhile, there are two battery pack options for the Nexon EV, each with a separate electric motor. While the other uses a larger 40.5 kWh pack coupled to an electric motor that churns out 144 PS/215 Nm and has a claimed range of up to 465 km, the 30 kWh pack is paired with an electric motor that produces 129 PS/215 Nm.
Tata Nexon Features
Following its most recent redesign, the Nexon is now among the segment’s most feature-rich options. Tata has fitted it with a sunroof, wireless phone charging, heated front seats, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, and two 10.25-inch screens (one for infotainment and the other for instruments).
It has a 360-degree camera, an electronic stability programme (ESP), six airbags, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) among its safety features.
