Only 115 will be built, each with a seven-speed manual transmission.
Porsche introduced the 356 America, an unique variant of its 356 sports car, in 1952. It was designed particularly for the American market, and now, 70 years later, another Porsche is geared straight at the United States of America. The – deep breath – 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America Edition pays respect to both the original 356 and the United States.
It’s impossible to construct a car for the United States without including plenty of red, white, and blue. It starts with a gleaming coat of Azure Blue 356 on the outside. The wheels appear white with a red lip at first glance, however they also have silver on the outside surfaces. (yugatech.com) It’s the first time several finishes have been utilised on a single wheel, according to Porsche, and the sides include distinctive America graphics. A black windscreen frame, rather than body colour, may be seen if you look a little higher up. This is also a first for the current 911 generation, according to Porsche.
The red-white-blue colour combination continues on the inside, with contrast stitching that alternates between Guards Red and Pebble Grey. Prior to the premiere in the United States, Porsche indicated to the press that a pure white paint on an otherwise dark interior was simply too bright. That isn’t to say the red seat belts aren’t eye-catching, but you get the picture. Even the seven-speed manual’s shift stalk has a red design and digits in the knob. Special door sills honour the 70th anniversary of America Roadster vehicles, of which only three exist. Porsche also offered a 964-based America in 1992, in addition to the original 356 and this one.
The powertrain is regular 911 GTS, as this is a cosmetic package. That’s not a bad thing, because it means the manual transmission will send 473 horsepower (353 kilowatts) to the rear wheels. It’s the only engine Porsche will provide in the United States, keeping the concept of an open-air, enthusiast-focused sports car alive. The PASM Sport suspension, as well as the Sport exhaust and Sport Chrono Package, are all standard.
The America Edition is a theoretically an option for the Carrera GTS Cabriolet, but only 115 will be built for North America. It was spearheaded by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and brought to reality over a two-year period. The majority of the cars will travel to US dealers — 100 in total – with the remainder going to Canada. The starting MSRP for the extremely uncommon car is $186,370, which includes a $1,450 destination fee. It will be available for purchase in late 2022.
