There is a lot going on in the Indian car market in terms of launches, which is great news for all of us. Despite people’s growing shift toward SUVs, sedans have managed to keep the buzz going all year. The carmakers were on top of their game, with key debuts ranging from the Honda Amaze facelift to the Tata Tigor EV. There were plenty of launches, and the luxury carmakers did not take a back seat. We take a peek at the 2022 sedans to see if they can keep up with the enthusiasm.
1. Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia will be the company’s first sedan to be constructed on the MQB A0-IN platform, which is also used by the Kushaq and VW Taigun. The sedan will replace the Rapid sedan in India and is expected to be on sale in the first quarter of 2022. The Kushaq SUV will be powered by the same 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder engine and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI engine. Both engines come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, with a 6-speed automatic torque converter (1.0L) and a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission as options (1.5L).
2. Tata Tigor CNG
The Tigor subcompact automobile fueled by compressed natural gas is slated to hit the market soon, most likely next month. Since it was first glimpsed in India earlier this year, the Tigor CNG has been keenly anticipated in the Indian vehicle market. The same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine with 85 horsepower and 113 Nm of peak torque is predicted. The Tigor CNG will compete with the Hyundai Aura CNG when it is released.
3. Toyota Belta
Next year, Toyota aims to launch a compact sedan based on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in India. It will take the place of the now-defunct Yaris. The Toyota Belta has been launched for the Middle East markets ahead of its home debut. It will be powered by the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of peak torque.
4. Volkswagen Virtus
Volkswagen is also developing a tiny sedan called the Virtus, which will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform. The sedan will take the place of the brand’s Vento in the lineup. The car’s powertrain options are likely to be shared with the Taigun. It’s scheduled to debut in the first half of 2022. The sedan will compete with the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz if it is released.
5. Mercedes-Benz C-Class
In the second half of 2022, Mercedes-Benz will unveil the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan. The vehicle will have a 25-millimeter larger wheelbase, measuring 2865 millimetres on the interior. In addition, the sedan will be 65 mm longer and 10 mm wider than the current model. It will be powered by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines, as well as a 2.0-litre diesel engine with a 48V belt-integrated starting generator. It will face competition from the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Jaguar XE.
