The response of Indian auto buyers to long-range electric four-wheelers has been phenomenal, and as a result, these EV vehicles are flying off the shelves. As evidence of this, the British automotive brand Morris Garages Motor India recently announced that it has reached a significant milestone. The company announced that its all-electric SUV, the MG ZS EV, has sold 5000 units in the country. It also stated that the ZS EV is currently receiving over 1,000 reservations each month.
Morris Garages refreshed India’s first electric SUV, the ZS EV, and released the 2022 model in March of this year. The facelifted version of the ZS EV was launched at a price of Rs 22 lakh ex-showroom. The latest iteration received a revamped front fascia consisting of a closed grille with the charging port on the left side of the MG logo on the grille itself. Some of the other changes included all-LED headlamps with sharper daytime running LEDs, a new bumper with chrome inserts across its width at the bottom, and a set of new 17-inch machined alloy wheels with an updated five-spoke design.

The cabin of the MG ZS EV was significantly revised as part of the makeover and now resembles that of the Astor. For the ZS EV, MG chose an all-black theme with contrast silver inlays. The MG ZS EV now has a more extensive feature set. It now has all of these features, in addition to a wireless charger, a 360-degree parking camera, heated exterior rearview mirrors, a 7-inch full-TFT instrument dashboard, powered front seats, and an electronic parking brake.
Additional features include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, automated climate control, a push start-stop button, and a PM 2.5 in-cabin air purifier.
The vehicle also has six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, an electronic stability program, hill descent control, hill hold assistance, auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot detection, lane change assistance, and rear cross-traffic alert. The MG Astor, on the other hand, has full Level-2 ADAS and an AI-assisted talking robot, which it lacks.
With this facelift, the MG ZS EV received a larger 50.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, giving it a maximum driving range of 461 km (as claimed by the WLTP cycle). Even the electric motor that powers it is new, with a peak torque output of 280 Nm and a maximum power output of 173 horsepower. The MG ZS EV is available in a single fully-loaded Exclusive model for Rs 21.99 lakh. Following the launch of the new 2022 model, the company announced that the new ZS EV was sold out for 2022 within a few days of its official debut in India.
