The Swedish automaker has unveiled the CC850, just in time for Christian von Koenigsegg’s 50th birthday this year. If it isn’t obvious, the CC850 hypercar is a throwback to Koenigsegg’s first production car, the CC8S, which debuted in 2002.
What makes the Koenigsegg CC850 hypercar truly unique is its transmission, or as the automaker refers to it, the TWMPAFMPC transmission, which stands for The Worlds Most Powerful And Fastest Manual Production Car. It has a six-speed manual transmission, a gated shifter, and three pedals. Furthermore, by switching to drive mode (rightmost, down), you can access the nine-speed automatic transmission.
This appears to be a complex system, and as a birthday treat, Koenigsegg attempted to explain how it works in the walkaround video embedded above this page. It’s essentially an all-electronic affair, with only the six gears accessible in manual mode. However, when in manual mode, the gear ratio is different, and it also varies depending on the drive mode. Koenigsegg also provided a brief explanation of how the ratio changes for each mode in the video.
It’s worth noting that when using manual mode, you must engage the clutch pedal, just like you would in a traditional manual. And, yes, you will stall the vehicle if you bog the launch, just like in a traditional manual.
The CC850 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine from the Koenigsegg Jesko, which has been downtuned to 1,385 horsepower (1,033 kilowatts) when using E85 fuel, with a maximum torque of 1,022 pound-feet (1,385 Newton-meters). The CC850 has a power-to-weight ratio of one to one at 1,385 kilogrammes (3,053 pounds). During the development stage, Koenigsegg joked that they had to fight for that number.
The CC850, like the CC8S, will be a limited edition of 50 pieces. The hypercar’s pricing and availability have not been disclosed by Koenigsegg, but as with all Koenigseggs, this vehicle is reserved for the one percent.
