New 2024 Ford Mustang Teaser Shows Off GT Badge, Trunk: Video

In a recent social media post, Ford slipped a brief but significant teaser for the 2024 Mustang. A 10-second video promotes The Stampede, which has evolved from a live debut of the seventh-generation pony car to a pre-show cruise and party open to all Mustang owners. However, the video shows a significant change coming to the Mustang’s backside, as well as possibly a new trim level.

The video starts with a suitcase in the trunk of a car, most likely a new Ford Mustang. When the trunk lid is closed, a familiar GT badge appears in the centre of the panel. The panel, however, is not black as it has been for the entire sixth-generation run. The new model will return to body colour between the taillights, which is a significant change. The blackout treatment is a classic Mustang look that dates all the way back to the first generation. It has been available from the factory on and off over the years, but it appears that it will be unavailable for the seventh generation. At least on certain trims.

The word Performance etched into the GT badge is less noticeable. Aside from the convertible, the current GT comes in Fastback and Fastback Premium trim levels. A GT Performance Package with upgraded brakes, suspension tweaks, and other enhancements is available for $6,700, but could this evolve into a new GT Performance trim for 2024? Spy photos show camouflaged Mustang prototypes that appear quite aggressive, so it’s certainly a possibility.

On September 14, our questions will be answered. That is when the new Mustang will make its debut, and Ford is going all out to make it memorable. The automaker confirmed that over 1,000 Mustang owners have registered to participate in The Stampede on September 14, but The Drive Home, a two-week road trip, begins on September 6 in Tacoma, Washington. A Ford convoy will travel through several states before arriving in Dearborn for the ride to the debut.
