2023 BMW M4 CSL Acceleration Test

BMW M is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and with it comes the respect for the CSL moniker, which debuted a year after the M division was founded.

While four BMW M CSL prototypes never made it to production, the third, the BMW M4 CSL, was unveiled earlier this year. It is the fastest series-production BMW to lap the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, clocking in at 7:20.2 seconds. This is all thanks to the iconic motorsports division’s performance enhancements, which have resulted in the most hardcore M car yet.

With weight savings, the 2023 BMW M4 CSL should reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds; 10.5 seconds if it continues and attempts to reach 120 mph (193 km/h). That’s thanks to the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, which has been reworked to produce up to 543 horsepower (404 kilowatts), which is 40 hp more than the M4 Competition.

From 2,750 to 5,950 rpm, torque is rated at 479 pound-feet (649 Newton-meters). BMW also increased the boost pressure in the M4 CSL to 30.5 psi, up from 24.7 psi in the M4 Competition.

Motorsport Magazine performed an acceleration run for the M4 CSL in the video above. The sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) took 3.7 seconds, while the sprint to 124 mph (200 km/h) took 10.9 seconds. Both correspond to the claimed figures.

Meanwhile, the run came to an end after 0.62 mile (1 km), so the electronically limited top speed of 191 mph (307 kph) was not reached. Regardless, the M4 CSL here reached 168 mph (271 km/h) in the allotted time and made the feat appear effortless.
