2023 Honda Civic Type R Dyno Results – Hondata FL5 Baseline

Honda has already demonstrated that the FL5 model of the Civic Type R is more potent than the FK8 model. The 2.0-liter K20C1 inline-four turbocharger is carried over to the new model with a few minor tweaks to produce more notable numbers.

But really, by how much? Hondata from YouTube obtained a FL5 and put it on the dyno to display actual numbers. Even better, the people have the 2017 Civic Type R FK8’s historical data on hand, allowing for a straightforward comparison between the two.

The 2023 Civic Type R produces 11 horsepower (8.2 kilowatts) and 25 pound-feet (34 Newton-meters) more torque than the findings on its predecessor, as seen in the video up top. At 2,500, the turbo spooled, and the maximum torque was recorded.

According to official figures, the FL5 has 315 horsepower (235 kW) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, an increase of 9 horsepower and 15 lb-ft over the previous generation. The dynamometer results revealed more information, which was not unexpected. The turbocharger, which now has optimised turbine blades that produce greater pressure with a wider range and more efficiency, represents a significant portion of Honda’s work on the powertrain. Additionally, the exhaust has been updated to release more gas.

Honda has not yet released the new Civic Type R’s performance statistics, but it is clear that the Japanese automaker made improvements to the model’s performance to keep up with that of its predecessor. Honda made modifications to the car’s suspension in addition to the engine.

At least at the Suzuka Circuit, the 2023 Civic Type R is already outperforming the FK8 at this point. At the Japanese track, the FL5 currently holds the production front-wheel-drive record, beating the model from the previous generation by 0.8 seconds.

The new Civic Type R is already being delivered by Honda in the US. $43,990 is the starting price.
