The car sector began 2023 on a high note, with most of the country’s leading automakers reporting excellent sales increases. Car sales in India increased by 17.3 percent in January 2023, with a total of 3,45,805 units sold compared to 2,94,768 units sold in the same time the previous year.

Alto by Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki Alto recovered the top spot in automobile sales in January 2023 after a lengthy absence. Maruti Suzuki sold 21,411 Alto automobiles last month, up from 12,342 in January 2022, representing a 73% increase. The new-generation vehicle, which will be unveiled in August 2022, has rekindled enthusiasm among first-time automobile purchasers. The forthcoming Alto K10 Xtra Edition is likely to improve sales of the hatchback even more in the country.
Wagon R by Maruti Suzuki
The Alto outsold the Wagon R by 945 units. The car sold 20,466 units in January 2022, compared to 20,334 in January 2022, representing a 1% increase. The Wagon R CNG has been a popular choice among new car purchasers throughout the years.
Swift Maruti Suzuki
The Swift hatchback came in third, despite a 14% reduction in sales. Last month, the Swift sold 16,440 units, compared to 19,108 units in January 2022. Maruti Suzuki debuted the Swift CNG in August 2022, which rekindled enthusiasm among new vehicle consumers.
Baleno by Maruti Suzuki
Another Maruti Suzuki model to add to the list. Despite a 141% increase, the Baleno ranked fourth with 16,357 unit sales last month, compared to 6,791 unit sales in January 2022. Surprisingly, the Baleno premium hatchback was just 83 units away from third place!
Nexon Tata Ltd.
The only non-Maruti Suzuki car on this list is the Nexon small SUV. Tata Motors sold 15,567 Nexon cars last month, up from 13,816 in the same time the previous year, representing a 13% increase.
