2023 BMW X5 M & X6 M Competition Revealed

The BMW X5 M and X6 M models for 2023 have been unveiled by the German automaker. The BMW X5 M and X6 M performance SUVs are only available for 2023 in Competition trim.

Additionally, the new BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition mark the debut of mild hybrid technology in a BMW M vehicle. The 48V mild hybrid system adds a motor that gives the two performance SUVs an extra 12 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque.

Speaking of power, the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine found in both the new X5 M and X6 M Competition produces 750Nm of torque between 1,800 and 5,800 rpm and 617 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Power is distributed to all four wheels by an automatic transmission with eight speeds.

What does the turbocharged V8’s and the mild hybrid system’s abundance of power and torque actually mean on the road? The X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition, respectively, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. In comparison to the more aerodynamic X6 M Competition, the X5 M Competition accelerates from 0 to 200 km/h in 13.8 seconds.

The top speed of 250 km/h for both the X6 M and X5 M Competition is electronically limited. However, selecting the optional M Driver’s Package raises the top speed to a more insane 290km/h for customers who prefer to disregard the gentlemen’s agreement between the German automakers.

The X5 M and X6 M Competition SUVs also bring a host of other features including double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension setups with adaptive dampers for better handling and steering response. Also present is a new system that sees the all-wheel-drive system and the Active M Differential work in unison with near-actuator wheel slip limitation for the first time ensuring swifter and more precise reactions to changes in driving conditions, along with even better traction.

The X5 M and X6 M both have an aggressive appearance unlike anything else. Both SUVs have larger versions of the recognisable kidney grille from BMW up front, with the X6 M adding a new splitter element to the front bumper.

The X6 M, which has a coupe SUV design, has a more subdued lip spoiler while the X5 M has new graphics for the taillights and a spoiler built into the roof. Although owners have the option to upgrade to 22-inch alloy wheels, both SUVs come standard with 21-inch alloy wheels. Both performance models of both SUVs now have BMW’s twin-screen setup on the dash, along with a tonne of other M parts for the cabin, such as seats, a steering wheel, pedals, and seat belts, among other things. The interiors of both SUVs have also been upgraded.

The 2023 BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition are the first M Performance vehicles to feature mild hybrid technology, making them faster than ever before and thus even more desirable for petrolheads with families to transport.
