Watch A Diesel-Swapped Ford Mustang Do Burnouts While Towing A Boat

The Ford Mustang is not normally recognised for its ability to tow, which makes this version with a tow hitch all the more intriguing. A diesel engine is the one essential component of this Mustang that makes it capable of towing.

It’s a diesel, that’s right. YouTuber Westen Champlin decided that the “Smoke- Stang’s” engine compartment should house a 5.9-liter Cummins six-cylinder diesel engine rather than a 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder or a 5.0-liter NA V8. This engine’s initial output was 230 horsepower (233 PS / 172 kW) and 440 lb-ft (597 Nm), however after some significant changes, it probably produces a significant amount more even if no precise numbers are known.

The end result is a fantastically weird construct that can now tow a boat with what seems to be no problems. And it does so in style, with the diesel Mustang observed pulling the watercraft down the road while conducting burnouts. The roar of the enormous turbo spinning up and smoke plumes rising from an exhaust that can only be described as hood-exit — if this car still had a hood — add to the spectacle of it all.

It’s important to note that this engine switch wasn’t necessarily done with the intention of making the vehicle a speed demon; rather, it was done largely just because it could be. Even with the large turbo, it was only able to manage a 13.2-second quarter-mile time in a previous video, which is only 0.7 seconds faster than the four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang and in fact 1.1 seconds slower than the V8 GT. Granted, it probably has an absurd amount of torque if it can tow a boat like it can, but even with the big turbo, it was only able to manage that.
