Best Cars You Can Buy For Less Than Rs 6 Lakh

Car prices have risen significantly in recent years. Industry experts attribute this growing trend to a convergence of causes, including supply chain disruptions caused by semiconductor shortages, rising input costs, and the introduction of stronger government regulations. Despite the exorbitant pricing, the search for a low-cost set of wheels continues.

The market presently provides few possibilities for individuals with a budget of Rs 6 lakh on the road (OTR). Popular options include the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Maruti S-Presso, and Renault Kwid, which claim to give driving pleasure without breaking the budget.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

Maruti Alto K10

Maruti Suzuki India continues to provide the most cheap vehicles in the country. With the Alto 800 no longer in production, the Alto K10 is the carmaker’s entry-level model.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 ranges in price from Rs 3.99 lakh to Rs 5.96 lakh (ex-showroom). While the top-spec edition of the entry-level hatchback will not be available for less than Rs 6 lakh (OTR), purchasers can consider lesser and mid-spec variations.

The Alto K10 is powered by a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine with 67PS and 89Nm. The engine can be combined with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. There is also a CNG variant (57PS and 82Nm) with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Maruti’s S-Presso is yet another low-cost option. It shares powertrains with the Alto K10.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is priced between Rs 4.26 lakh and Rs 6.11 lakh (ex-showroom). Again, top-spec models in both petrol and CNG are out of reach for less than Rs 6 lakh (OTR). Buyers can, however, consider cheaper and mid-spec models.

The Renault Kwid is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine that generates 68PS and 91Nm. The engine can be combined with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can acquire the lower and mid-spec variants of this entry-level hatchback for Rs 6 lakh (OTR).
