Car Sales Aug 2023: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, and more

India’s automakers have announced their monthly sales figures for August 2023. The majority of them, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and Tata Motors, have reported higher year-on-year sales, while some have recorded lower month-on-month sales. Here’s a brief look at the prior month’s auto sales statistics.

Maruti Suzuki Sales August 2023

In August 2023, India’s top passenger vehicle manufacturer sold 1,56,114 units domestically, compared to 1,34,166 units sold in the same month in 2022. It shipped 24,614 units in the prior month, compared to 21,481 units in August 2022. Overall, Maruti sold 1,89,082 units in August 2023, the highest-ever monthly sales figure.

Tata Motors Sales August 2023

Tata Motors, an Indian carmaker, reported a 3.5% reduction in total monthly domestic passenger car sales in August 2023. In the previous month, the brand sold 45,513 units, including electric cars (EVs), compared to 47,166 units in August 2022. However, the manufacturer’s overseas business increased by 127% to 420 units, up from 185 units in the same period the previous year. In terms of overall EV sales, Tata sold 6,236 vehicles in August 2023, a 54.9 percent increase over the previous month’s sales of 4,026 units.

Hyundai Sales August 2023

Domestic sales at Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) were 53,830 units, representing an 8.72 percent year-on-year increase over 44,001 cars sold in the same month in 2022. In comparison, in March 2023, it sold 50,600 copies. The South Korean carmaker shipped 17,605 units in the previous month, a 38.62 percent increase over the 12,700 units shipped in August of last year.

Toyota Sales August 2023

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported its highest-ever monthly domestic sales of 22,910 units, up 53% from 14,959 units delivered in August 2022. It had previously recorded its biggest monthly sales in July 2023, when it sold 21,911 copies. Furthermore, the automaker shipped 1,940 vehicles in the previous month.

Mahindra Sales August 2023

Mahindra’s total sales in August 2023 were 37,270 units, the highest-ever monthly sales of its SUVs, representing a 26% increase over the previous year’s total sales of 29,516 units. The carmaker’s exports dropped by 17% in the last month, from 2,912 units in August 2022 to 2,423 units.

MG Motors Sales August 2023

MG Motor India recorded a 10 percent growth in domestic sales at 4,185 units sold in August 2023 compared to sales of 3,823 units in the same period of 2022. The carmaker had sold 5,012 units in July 2023.
