The Defender has proven immensely popular among India’s wealthiest auto enthusiasts due to its unusual appearance, off-road driving prowess, and premium appeal associated with the Land Rover logo. Here are a few of the well-known celebrities who own a Land Rover Defender.
1. Mukesh Ambani
It’s a big no-no to talk about premium automobile collections without mentioning Mukesh Ambani’s private garage. In his collection, India’s richest billionaire has a Land Rover Defender 110 in a lovely shade of Eiger Grey. Typically, the SUV is seen in a convoy alongside escort cars such as the Mahindra Scorpio, Ford Endeavour, and MG Gloster.
2. MK Stalin
MK Stalin, the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, purchased two Land Rover Defenders in 2021, one in Hakuba Silver and the other in Fuji White. In 2021, during a routine assessment of flood-affected areas in Tamil Nadu, Stalin was first observed in one of the two Defenders. Both of these Defenders are claimed to be SE models with diesel-automatic transmissions.
3. Arjun Kapoor
In early 2021, Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor purchased a Pangea Green Land Rover Defender, which is the Defender’s hallmark colour globally. Arjun owns the Defender First Edition, which arrived in India with 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre petrol engine options and a few cosmetic enhancements over the ordinary model.
4. Aayush Sharma
Arjun Kapoor isn’t the only Bollywood star who has purchased a Land Rover Defender. Aayush Sharma, Salman Khan’s brother-in-law, purchased a Defender in a dark shade of Santorini Black from Red Stallion Super Cars, an Ahmedabad-based premium automotive consultant.
5. Vijay Vasanth
Mr Vijay Vasanth, a Member of Parliament from the Kanyakumari seat, is another politician from South India who owns a Land Rover Defender. Vasanth has acted in a few Tamil films and is a successful businessman in addition to being an MP. He replaced his previous red Toyota Fortuner with a new Defender in a unique shade of red in 2021.

Viveck Goenka, the Chairman and Managing Director of The Indian Express, is the proud owner of a staggering collection of twenty vintage Range Rover models, including a well-restored example of the original bare-bones Land Rover Defender. Although this particular model was never officially introduced in India, several imported units of this SUV are still in use across the country.

The Land Rover Defender is available in India with three powertrain options: a 2.0-litre petrol engine (292 bhp and 400 Nm of torque), a 3.0-litre petrol engine (395 bhp and 550 Nm of torque), and a 3.0-litre diesel engine (395 bhp and 550 Nm of torque) (296 bhp of power and 650 Nm of torque).
