Powered by a V12 engine, Ferrari Purosangue SUV is a statement of intent signaling evolution in a world preferring larger body types. But Ferrari is shying away from terming the car as an SUV.
The Ferrari Purosangue has finally been revealed as the iconic sports car maker’s first SUV in a world that is increasingly moving toward larger body types in vehicles. The Ferrari Purosangue SUV will eventually be manufactured in limited numbers to compete with rivals such as the Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, Maserati Levante, Porsche Cayenne, and Aston Martin DBX.
The Ferrari Purosangue does not adhere to the bulky or boisterous body types, instead opting for a crossover SUV design philosophy. The Purosangue, Ferrari’s first four-door, four-seater vehicle, is a manifestation of global trends that favour SUV body types. While purists may have objected to a sports car manufacturer leaning toward the SUV body form, Ferrari appears to have struck a balance between a low-slung vehicle and a car with commanding road presence. The terminology, however, may be muted for Ferrari. “It’s not called an SUV. “We’re not even talking about SUVs,” said Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna.
