Jeep also confirmed that V8s are dead in performance Jeeps.
Jeep’s hybrid SUV lineup is likely to grow significantly. Jim Morrison, the head of the Jeep brand, spoke with Motor Authority about the future of Jeep powertrains. According to Morrison, Jeep is focusing on adding plug-in hybrid drivetrains that provide customers with both the power and the fuel economy they want. Jeep’s top-of-the-line Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will get a hybrid 4xe drivetrain by 2025, demonstrating the company’s commitment to a hybrid-focused portfolio.
Morrison painted a pretty clear picture of Jeep powertrains’ future in the Motor Authority interview. Morrison informed Motor Authority that V8 engines are no longer used in high-performance Jeeps, and that there are no definite intentions for the Trackhawk badge.

Instead, Jeep is concentrating on expanding the 4xe marque. By 2025, both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will have 4xe trims, according to Morrison. Morrison could not confirm which gasoline engine will be hybridised in the Wagoneer when asked by Motor Authority. According to rumours, the 2.0-liter inline-4 engine found in the current generation of 4xe Jeeps may be too tiny, hence this trim will likely feature Jeep’s new turbocharged inline-6 engine. Jeep has not yet confirmed this setup.
When the Jeep Wrangler 4xe was unveiled in September of 2020, it represented the Jeep brand’s future. The rigged Wrangler was still a strong off-roader, but it also had the added benefit of quick electric torque and better fuel economy. A 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 270 horsepower is combined with two electric motors and a 400-volt, 17-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack in the Wrangler 4xe. The plug-in hybrid system has a total output of 375 horsepower (280 kilowatts) and torque of 470 pound-feet (637 Newton-meters).

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe shares the same engine as the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, which is more fuel efficient than the base V6 and more torquey than the optional V8.
Customers would benefit from a 4xe variant for Jeep’s top-of-the-line Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs, which would be more powerful and fuel-efficient. Based on the popularity of the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, it appears that the Wagoneer lineup will benefit from same winning formula.
