Venomous snakes have been discovered in cars on numerous occasions in the past. In each of these situations, concerned authorities found the snake right away and saved it. Here is a report from Kerala describing how a King Cobra spent more than a week living in the engine bay of a Tata Nexon while it travelled more than 240 kilometres. It was eventually captured from a nearby house. The owner of the Tata Nexon SUV is seen explaining the entire incident in the video of the snake being caught, which has already gone viral online.

MediaoneTV Live has posted the video to their YouTube channel. The snake’s capture by forest department employees is demonstrated in the video. The owner of the Tata Nexon, where the snake spent more than a week, is also interviewed by the reporter in this video. Sujith, the owner of the Tata Nexon, lives in the Arpookara neighbourhood of the Kottayam district. On August 2, Sujith took his Tata Nexon to the Nilambur, Malappuram district. Sujith observed a King Cobra entering his parked car in Nilambur.

To remove the snake, he called representatives from the Forest Department. The vehicle was parked next to the battery and had entered the engine compartment. When the authorities arrived to save the snake, it slithered under the battery, which complicated matters for them. The officers asked Sujith to start the car because they believed that the snake would automatically exit once the engine got too hot. They left the car in a parking lot for a few days in the hopes that the snake would emerge, but that did not happen. After a few days, the owner took the vehicle to a service centre and had the underbody lifted for inspection. (Ultram)

To make sure the snake emerges if it hasn’t already, he even washed the car with diesel. After doing all of these things, he did not discover any snakes in his car, leading him to believe that they may have left. Even though he did not see the snake leave, he was not entirely convinced by the story. Nevertheless, he returned the car to his house in Arpookara, which is about 240 kilometres from Nilambur. Before starting the car, he continued to check it. Nothing was discovered by him. After a week, he discovered snake skin hanging out underneath his car and realised the snake was still inside.

He made a call to the local snake rescue team and began looking for the snake. When the bumper was removed to inspect the vehicle, the snake was not to be found. A few days later, Sujith learned that a snake had been seen in a nearby house. The locals called Sujith to confirm that it was the same snake because they were already aware of the King Cobra story. Sujith confirmed that it resembled what he had seen on his Nexon, and the officers from the Forest Department identified it as a King Cobra, which is unusual for them to encounter. The officers managed to capture the snake and remove it. The king cobra is a highly poisonous snake. Sujith and people living in the area where extremely lucky that, it did not harm anyone. If you find yourself in such a situation, never try to handle things on your own and call for professional help.
