Mahindra Thar 2WD All Details You Need
In the second week of January 2023, the new Mahindra Thar 2WD (or RWD) models went on sale. In addition, the company added a smaller 1.5L diesel engine to the SUV model selection. The XUV300 is powered by the same engine. The 4-cylinder oil burner produces 117bhp and 300Nm. The Thar benefits from cheaper excise with the advent of the smaller capacity diesel engine and the sub-4 metre length. The new diesel engine is available with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The new Thar RWD also comes with a 2.0L turbo petrol engine (or 2WD). In contrast to the diesel engine, the gasoline engine is only available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It has a maximum power output of 152bhp and a torque output of 320Nm. The new Mahindra Thar 2WD diesel AX (O) and LX versions are priced at Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 10.99 lakh, respectively, while the LX petrol model is priced at Rs 13.49 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The automaker has previously said that these are introductory rates that will only be available to the first 10,000 consumers.
According to dealer sources, the new Mahindra Thar 2WD petrol model has a three-month waiting time. The 2WD diesel models, which are in high demand, have a waiting time of 16 to 18 months in some locations. The SUV’s 4X4 models (both petrol and diesel) face up to a three-month delay. The huge demand for the Thar 2WD diesel variant is due to its fuel economy, superior city drivability, and, of course, its cost.
In other news, the Pune-based automaker is testing an extended version of the Thar, which is expected to appear later this year. The 5-door Mahindra Thar will be offered with 4X4 and 4X2 drivetrains. It is available with a 2.0L turbo petrol or 2.2L turbo diesel engine.
