Maruti Suzuki Jimny Crosses 15,000 Bookings Till Date – Report
We all thought Maruti Suzuki’s latest lifestyle off-roader would be a blockbuster in the Indian SUV market, but no one expected it to become such a popular so soon. The all-new Jimny five-door has passed the 9,000 reservations mark, according to the firm. The firm has now announced that Jimny has surpassed the 15,000 reservations milestone as well. In addition to the 9,000 bookings, the firm stated a week ago that it is hiking the reservation charge from Rs 11,000 to Rs 25,000 in order to deter non-serious bookings.
The five-door Jimny is an enlarged version of the already successful three-door Jimny, and this lifestyle offroader was on many customers’ radars in the country even before its formal appearance at the 2023 Auto Expo. This new SUV will be the brand’s only product in the nation, including a ladder-on-frame chassis and an off-road system. The Jimny five-door will be made in the company’s Gujarat manufacturing plant, which already produces the three-door Jimny for worldwide markets. This is the same production line where Maruti Suzuki built the iconic Gypsy till 2020.
The Jimny five door has two additional doors but else is identical to the Jimny three-doordoor. The new Jimny five-door measures 3,985mm in length, 1,645mm in width, and 1,720mm in height, all of which are less than 4 metres, allowing it to receive all of the country’s tax breaks. (Molnupiravir online) The SUV has 210mm of ground clearance. The Jimny also features a 36-degree approach angle, a 24-degree ramp break-over angle, and a 50-degree departure angle. Maruti Suzuki previously asserted that the increased wheelbase will not impair the Jimny five door’s off-road capability.
The Jimny is the only vehicle produced by the Indo-Japanese manufacturer that has an off-road system. The Suzuki AllGrip Pro system, which incorporates 2H, 4H, and 4L low-range transfer gear, is standard on the SUV. Maruti Suzuki has not publicly endorsed the specific ratio of the low-ratio gearbox.
According to sources, the top-of-the-line Alpha model, which the business will focus on initially, would have a slew of capabilities. The top-spec variant will include an infotainment system with a touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard, among other things. It will also have the SmartPlay system, which provides connectivity options such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition to other safety features, the SUV will include 6 airbags, a brake limited slip differential (LSD), ESP with hill hold help, hill descent control, a rearview camera, and ABS with EBD.
The Jimny will be powered by Maruti Suzuki’s time-tested 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated K15C Dualjet engine, which also powers the upgraded Ertiga and XL6 and the all-new Brezza. When aided by a mild hybrid system, this engine produces 134.2 Nm of maximum torque and 104.8 PS of maximum power. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard, although a 4-speed torque converter will be offered as an option. Maruti Suzuki has modified the engine to make it more suitable for off-road driving.
The Jimny five door will be available for purchase starting in May of this year, according to the firm. Meanwhile, the SUV is estimated to start at Rs 12 lakh.
