Mercedes-Benz Reveals Special-Edition G-Wagen Edition 550

200 units of the G-class Edition 550 will come to the U.S., offering three color options that contrast with black bumpers and fender flares.

The G-wagen, along with most of Mercedes-other Benz’s V-8–powered cars, was momentarily phased out of the range, but it’s now back with an exclusive special edition. The G-class Edition 550 will be available in the United States in 200 units, featuring a few cosmetic changes inside and out as well as distinctive badging.

  • Mercedes is introducing a new special-edition version of the G-wagen called the Edition 550.
  • It comes in either red, grey, or white and has black bumpers and fender flares, along with a special badge.
  • The interior has fancier leather and carbon-fiber trim.

Instead of the more powerful 577-hp AMG G63, the Edition 550 cars are based on the non-AMG G550 model with a 416-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. Jupiter Red, Arabian Grey, and a new colour called Moonlight White will be available. The Edition 550 includes black lower trim instead of the standard model’s body-color bumpers and fender flares. The wheels look to be the identical black 20-inch AMG 14-spoke alloys found on the base model.

The inside has two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, carbon-fiber trim, and massage front seats as an option. There’s also a logo on the passenger’s side grab handle that says “1 of 200” and another on the front fenders that has a fantastic image depicting a G-wagen ascending a mountain.

Mercedes hasn’t announced a pricing for the Edition 550, but based on the price of an identical G550 with these cosmetic changes, we expect it will be at least $150,000.
