1. Lamborghini Aventador
This is, without a doubt, the most important icon on the entire list! The Lamborghini Aventador, which debuted in 2010, was a suitable successor to the Lamborghini Murcielago. Lamborghini will no longer produce supercars, instead opting for a purely hybrid or electric lineup in the future. Lamborghini created the final Aventador, the LP780-4 Ultimae, as a tribute, and it is already sold out. In any case, just 600 units were made.
2. Lotus Evora and Elise
According to the company’s CEO, these two models will be replaced with new-generation sports cars with lightweight bodywork. The new Lotus Emira or Type 131 could be the first.
3. Polestar 1
This Swedish performance car brand is owned by Volvo, and it debuted in 2019 with a hefty price tag. The hybrid powertrain, which includes a rear-axle electric motor, added to the complexity. The Polestar 1 will now fade away, leaving just the Polestar 2 in the repertoire.
4. Mazda CX-3
This one is self-explanatory! Mazda Poland’s PR manager, Szymon Soltysik, confirmed the end of production for the popular CX-3, stating that the company was virtually finished processing customer reservations. The final European market units were produced in December 2021. With the introduction of the Mazda CX-30, the CX-3 lost traction, resulting in reduced sales numbers. In the year 2020, the company only sold 8,000 units.
5. Volkswagen Passat
After model year 2022, the stately Passat will be phased out. Volkswagen considered releasing a limited edition to honour its Chattanooga, Tennessee factory, which has been producing the Passat since 2011. The decision was made due to disappointing sales figures and intense competition from the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata. In Europe, the Passat will be phased out as well.
6. Hyundai Veloster
Hyundai initially said that a few models would be phased out while the non-N models would be kept. However, the company’s direction has altered, and the Veloster will be phased out in 2022. Only 6,785 units were sold in 2020, and only the N variant will be offered from 2022 onwards. The Ultimate, Premium, and R-Spec models will be phased out.
7. Volvo V60 and V90
These are the two other famous names on the list, and American customers only bought these two luxury waggons in small numbers, resulting in low overall sales. The V90 was only available as a special order a few years ago, and it only came in all-wheel drive (T6) and front-wheel drive (T5) configurations. The V60 moniker will likewise be retired, while the Volvo Cross Country will continue to employ the T8 plug-in hybrid engine.
