1. Ferrari F40
Talking about legendary supercars of the 80s and not including F40 would be a sin. That’s because this 478 BHP supercar is a legend in itself. It gets a top speed of 201 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 4.2 seconds. It gets a steel-tube chassis with a lightweight body and a 2.9-litre V8 engine. Only 1311 examples were ever made and that’s why most of them sell for millions today. No wonder many people call it the greatest Ferrari ever built.
2. Porsche 959 and 959 Sport
The Porsche 959 was the world’s fastest street-legal production car. Its 2.95-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine produces 450 HP. It also gets a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. All these come together to make an all-rounder sports car. In its sport trim, it could do 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds !! The Sport trim also got a power bump to 508 HP which gave the model a top speed of 211 mph. This is enough to make even the modern supercars jealous…
3. Lamborghini Countach LP5000 QV
The 80s was all about sharp angles and lines instead of curves. Nothing defines this better than the Lamborghini Countach. It has been the symbol of ‘Cool’ since its inception. Its scissor doors are so iconic that some companies still try to imitate them. The main attraction of the car is its V12 engine. Its 5.2-litre V8 engine generates 445 HP. The speed tops at 182 mph.
4. DeLorean DMC-12
Time to go back to the future !! Sorry for the bad pun, but that’s the first thought that comes to mind after seeing this car. Maybe the future wasn’t what the doc imagined while going at speed of 88 mph in this car. The back to the future trilogy kinda made the car get etched in minds of people. It gets a 2.85-litre V6 engine that makes 130 HP and 207 Nm of torque. That’s comparatively less than many cars, but the sheer uniqueness of the car has gathered many followers in its small lifespan of just 2 years. That’s what brings it on the list of legendary cars from the 80s.
5. Porsche 944
Another one of the legendary supercars from the 80s. You might be knowing the 911, but not the 944 (Unless you are an enthusiast). It is the evolution of the 924 and a true next-gen Porsche. It got a turbo version of the 2.5-litre engine that generated 217 HP and large multi-piston Brembo brakes in the 1986 update. In 1987, the power was raised to 187 HP. It has a well-enjoyable GT performance with good looks and comfort to match. Between 1982 and 1991, a total of 1,63,192 cars were produced which made it the most successful sports car in Porsche’s history before the Boxster/Cayman and 997 Carrera were introduced.
6. De Tomaso Pantera
Pantera stands for Panther in Italian. This model proved to be one. It is the company’s most successful model with more than 7000 manufactured during the 20-year production run. This mid-engine sports car gets a 5.8-litre V8 engine that makes 330 HP. The sportier GTS variant generates 345 HP and 451 Nm of torque. The top speed is 174 mph.
