Munro Electric SUV Has 376 HP And Can Wade Through 3 Feet Of Water

The Munro Mark 1 is an electric SUV being developed in Scotland. The company is targeting people who use their off-road vehicles frequently, such as farmers, forestry workers, and miners. If this sounds appealing, the fledgling automaker has already agreed to bring this tough machine to the United States.

According to The Scotsman, Munro has an agreement with EV leasing specialist Wyre to sell and distribute the SUV in the United States. The automaker intends to produce 50 vehicles in the first run, with half of those going to the United States. The first deliveries in the UK are expected in March or April 2023.

“We are overjoyed at the prospect of making it a huge success in the United States,” Wyre director Rebecca Hansen told The Scotsman.

The boxy vehicle pictured here is still a prototype. “The production-intent version will be available in November of this year,” a Munro spokesperson told Motor1.com. “The visual design (both inside and out) has been completely modernised.” A teaser was posted on Instagram by the company.

The Munro has a single electric motor that produces 376 horsepower (280 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque, according to preliminary specifications. It has a four-wheel-drive system that is permanent, with a two-speed transfer case and a locking centre differential. Differential locks for the front and rear axles are optional.

Its battery pack has a usable capacity of 80.1 kilowatt-hours. This equates to a 168-mile range or approximately 16 hours of off-road driving. The system supports DC fast charging at 100 kW and AC fast charging at 22 kW.

For hauling stuff, the Munro has a 2,205-pound (1,00-kilogram) payload, and there’s room for a European-sized pallet. It can tow 7,716 pounds (3,500 kilograms).

Munro is marketing the electric SUV as tough and repairable. It has a galvanised steel chassis and body panels made of aluminium. According to the company’s website, the brakes and suspension are “widely available OEM parts.” Water and dust protection is provided for the electrical components.

When the path becomes difficult, the approach angle is 88 degrees and the departure angle is 70 degrees. It can wade through water up to 3.281 feet (1 metre).

If you live in the United Kingdom, Munro is now accepting £500 refundable pre-orders for the vehicle. Before the country’s value-added tax, the expected price is £72,500. At the moment, there is no pricing for the US market.
