2025 BMW X3 Seen Cruising US Highways in Sporty M Performance Trim

BMW is getting ready to reveal the new X3, and a new video shows the M Performance model, most likely the M50i, undergoing road testing in the US. The redesigned model, which takes styling cues from other models, is covered in a full-body camouflage wrap. The X3 appears to have production headlights, but the taillights are hidden by the rear end covers. The improved powertrain of the crossover is indicated by the quad tailpipes.

The interior is not shown in the new video, but earlier spy images gave a clear view of the cabin. The updated X3 will adopt a wide, single-screen setup that combines the driver’s display and the infotainment screen into one piece, in keeping with the rest of the automaker’s recent reveals. A tiny toggle switch will take the place of the gear shift lever in the centre console.

Specific details about the powertrain are still unknown, but pure petrol and plug-in hybrid X3 models have been spotted testing. Additionally, we anticipate BMW to offer mild hybrid models and a full-fat M3 with more power than the current model’s 503 horsepower. The X3 M Performance model will be listed immediately below that.

Under the hood of the 2023 X3 M40i is a 3.0-liter straight-six engine from BMW that produces 382 horsepower. The next-generation model may have 400 horsepower or more, which could persuade BMW to increase the X3 M’s horsepower for good measure.

Even though it has been more than a year since we first saw the new X3 in the wild testing, there may still be some time before it goes on sale. The regular versions of the new crossover won’t likely be unveiled until the beginning of next year, and the sportier versions won’t likely make their debut until even later.

According to rumours, BMW won’t start manufacturing the next-generation X3 until August 2024, more than two years after the start of open testing. It recently made changes to the cabins and exterior of the current-generation crossover for the 2022 model year.
