New Koenigsegg Model Debuts Today: See The Livestream

The livestream starts at 12 PM Eastern / 4 PM GMT.

It might come as a surprise to some people, but we’ve actually seen this teaser before. Koenigsegg released an image depicting the shadowy silhouette of a new mysterious model at the start of the year. At the time, the Swedish hypercar manufacturer claimed the car had “more ultimate performance through clever engineering and optimal design.” On August 19, the official debut will take place.

Because the niche brand has been tight-lipped about its new creation, rumours will have to suffice for the time being. The car in question is thought to be labelled “CC12” and is the result of a collaboration with Carage, a hypercar dealer. According to the teaser image, the shape does appear to be reminiscent of Koenigsegg’s early days with the CCR and CCX.

It’s unclear whether the car will be a one-off or if a larger production run is planned (we’ve heard 50 will be made). Whatever the case may be, it will be as exclusive as all previous models. Some say it will be the “entry-level” model, while others say it will set you back $4 million. We do know it will not be the company’s fastest vehicle. Jesko Absolut, which aims to break the 300-mph barrier, has already been designated as Koenigsegg’s fastest road car.

While the CC8S had a V8 engine (of Ford origin), does the name CC12 imply that the new car will have a twelve-cylinder engine? We wouldn’t bet on it because Koenigsegg is still a small company focused on its V8 and the new three-cylinder engine with twin turbos and a small 2.0-liter displacement for the four-seat Gemera. Developing a V12 would necessitate significant R&D efforts, which the Swedes may lack.

Some believe it’s called CC850S to mark Christian von Koenigsegg’s 50th anniversary. It could have over 1,300 horsepower in a car that weighs 1,300 kilograms (2,866 pounds). Interestingly, power could be routed to the wheels via an automatic transmission with some sort of manual gearshift.

Of course, these are all rumors and speculations at this point, but the good thing is we won’t have to wait much longer to have all the official details.
