Audi RS6 Performance, RS7 Performance Debut With More Power, Torque

Audi has promised to only offer electric automobiles starting in 2026, however internal combustion engines are still functional today. The Four Rings is bringing a higher Performance variant with an updated twin-turbo, 4.0-liter engine to level up the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. The strong TFSI V8 now produces 850 Newton-meters (625 pound-feet) of torque and 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts) that are sent to a Quattro system.

As a result, Ingolstadt engineers increased output by 30 horsepower and 50 Nm (35 lb-ft) over normal vehicles. The dynamic duo from Audi can now sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in only 3.4 seconds, or two tenths of a second quicker than before, thanks to the freshly freed muscle. The RS Dynamic Package, which raises the peak speed to 174 mph (280 km/h) and adds rear-wheel steering, comes standard on the RS6 Performance and RS7 Performance models.

The RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback feature a newly created lighter and smaller self-locking centre differential in addition to an upgraded engine. Its duty is to direct the engine’s power in a rear-biased ratio since, under typical driving conditions, 60% of the output goes to the rear. It is possible to transfer up to 85% of the weight to the rear wheels or a maximum of 70% to the front axle, depending on the amount of available traction. The risk of understeering when the cars are being pushed hard is reduced by this new hardware, which sharpens handling during corners.

The cast aluminium wheels on the Performance models are 21 inches in diameter and may be upgraded to a 22-inch set. The interesting aspect of this wheel is that it is 22 inches in diameter and weighs around five kilogrammes (11 pounds) less than a standard 22-inch wheel thanks to a high-tech forging-milling process.

As a result, a weight loss of 20 kg (44 lbs) is accomplished. The Continental Sport Contact 7 285/30 tyres that come with these new wheels are designed to provide better traction on both dry and wet surfaces while reducing the distance needed to stop completely from 62 mph (100 km/h) by two meters.

The ceramic brakes can remove an additional 34 kg (75 lbs), in addition to the standard steel brakes. The lighter brakes, which have red, blue, or grey callipers and measure 440 mm up front and 370 mm down back, are a feature of the optional RS Dynamic Package Plus, which also increases the top speed to 190 mph (305 km/h).

There are 16 exterior colours available for the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback in Performance configuration, including the new Ascari Blue with a matte or metallic finish and a matte-only Dew Silver. Audi paints a few components matte grey to distinguish the vehicles from the standard models: the front spoiler, front side flaps, mirror caps, side sill inserts, roof rails, side window trim, and rear diffuser. Alternately, a matte carbon/black optics package is an option that will paint the chrome Audi logo black and darken the side window trim and roof rails.

The two RS versions now feature blue contrasting accents and a variety of RS design packages to pick from, but little else has changed inside. The side of the centre console and the selector lever knob are coated in Dinamica microfiber, while the seats are covered in perforated Valcona leather upholstery with honeycomb stitching. It is a material made primarily of recycled PET fibres, to the tune of about 45%.

When the eight-speed tiptronic transmission is in manual mode, Audi has integrated a blinking shift indicator for the 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. These also appear when the launch control system is turned on, demonstrating the ideal time to begin accelerating. LED projectors mounted in the front doors display the lettering “RS Performance” as a finishing touch.

Pricing for the US market has yet to be disclosed, but expect to pay more than a standard 2023 RS6 Avant available from $118,900. The regular 2023 RS7 Sportback starts at $120,900.
