Kia India will not cut the price of the EV6 – Report
Kia EV6 is the Korean automaker’s flagship model in India. The all-electric crossover will be offered in two variants and will be introduced in mid-2022 at a starting price of Rs 59.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
Hyundai recently debuted its much-anticipated electric crossover, the Ioniq 5, at the Auto Expo 2023, with a price tag of Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in a single fully equipped trim level. And because the Ioniq 5 is constructed in India, it is substantially less expensive than its Kia cousin, the EV6, which is imported as a whole unit.
According to sources, Kia will not lower the price of the EV6 and will continue to import it rather than construct it locally in India, even after the debut of the locally-assembled Hyundai Ioniq 5 at a lower price point.
Mechanically, both Korean electric crossovers are built on the same E-GMP platform and provide identical tech and feature lists, including the Level 2 ADAS suite, although the EV6 has a bigger battery pack of 77.4kWh as opposed to the Ioniq 5’s 72.6kWh. Thus, the EV6 has a 708km ARAI-certified driving range, whilst the Ioniq 5 has a 631km ARAI-certified range on a full charge.
