The new Baleno-based compact SUV will go against the lower variants of Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. It will also comepte against the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
Maruti Suzuki is working on a new compact SUV that will be based on the Baleno premium hatchback. It is currently being developed under the codename YTB. Maruti Suzuki will position the YTB below the Brezza because the Brezza has become quite expensive over the years and some competitors are undercutting the Brezza’s starting price. The Maruti YTB may take design cues from the Futuro-e concept, and as can be seen, the new compact SUV is a coupe SUV. The Maruti Suzuki YTB could be launched or unveiled at the upcoming Auto Expo.
The test mule was spotted in Gurugram, which also houses Maruti’s facility; it is quite common for people to spot Maruti’s test mule here. The Baleno Cross is camouflaged in white in the image, with only the rear three quarters visible.

The Maruti YTB’s rear glass is steeply raked, and it appears to have a sleek pair of tail lamps. There is a shark-fin antenna, roof rails, and a rear spoiler visible. According to previous test mules, the manufacturer will also offer a rear wiper with a washer. A rear defogger should also be available.
The front is not visible but the previous test mule had a split headlamp setup. so, the LED Daytime Running Lamp was placed above while the headlamp assembly was in the bumper.Â

The YTB is expected to use the same Heartect platform as other Maruti Suzuki vehicles. Because the manufacturer will not have to develop an entirely new platform, R&D costs will be reduced. Furthermore, the engine could be the same as in the Baleno. So it’s possible that it’s the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. However, there have been rumours that Maruti Suzuki may introduce a turbocharged engine for the YTB.
