It’s a road-legal homage to the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 GT.
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a supercar that is truly unique. A little over 2,100 units—including a unique variant known as the 722 Edition in honour of Sir Stirling Moss—were produced during its production cycle into the 2000s. As a result, the 722 GT, a track-only variant with a sumptuous cabin removed and a sole concentration on speed. Only 21 were produced.
Imagine the year 2022. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is giving SLR owners a second chance to drive the 722 GT, but with a twist, showing that the SLR is still in production. You receive all the aero features that transform the already recognisable SLR into a replica of the race car on the exterior. It feels more like a race car underneath thanks to some minor mechanical changes. However, it is pure road-going luxury on the interior. The SLR HDK by MSO is what it’s called, and MSO will make you one provided you give them an ordinary SLR with $350,000 stashed away in the glove box. Maybe.

In the video at the top of the post, well-known McLaren SLR fan Manny Khoshbin, who owns many of these vehicles, provides some insight into this extremely private world. For the conversion, which comprises new front and rear fascias, new rear wheel arches, side sill extensions, a lip spoiler, a rear diffuser, new wheels, and of course the large wing, he shipped an SLR over the pond few months ago. Any colour is available, but each will have unique badging.
A handling package for the suspension, updated steering, and a new exhaust system with a bypass valve are among the mechanical improvements that allow the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 to scream with authority. And rather than removing everything inside, the SLR HDK’s greenhouse is improved with new trim. We understand that it gives the best of both worlds and is road legal.

The video claims that the car has other enhancements, but no information is provided and McLaren MSO is unable to provide any official information. Since just 12 will be manufactured, it’s also something that not everyone with a car and money can get. He’s ordering one, so it’s safe to assume that when it arrives, he’ll return with a video.
