Opel Zafira-e Life Crosscamp Flex Is An EV Camper With A 200-Mile Range

The market for electric motorhomes is rapidly expanding, particularly in Europe. The Crosscamp Flex, which is based on an Opel Zafira-e Life, is the most recent model on the horizon. It will make its debut at the Caravan Salon 2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany, and sales will begin in 2023.

The electric Crosscamp Flex is powered by a 75-kilowatt-hour battery and has a WLTP driving range of 200 miles (322 kilometers). The system can charge the van to 80 percent in 48 minutes using 100 kilowatts of direct current.

The camper also has a 95-amp-hour battery that powers the lighting, refrigerator, and USB port. This prevents the EV from drawing too much power from the battery pack.

The Crosscamp Flex has all of the amenities you’d expect from a compact motorhome. There are two beds on the roof, which extends to provide more space for occupants. The rear bench seat folds down to form a double bed. A kitchenette with a sink and a gas stove is available. The front seats have a 180-degree rotation capability.

The van has front collision alert, emergency braking, drowsiness alert, lane keep assist, and traffic sign recognition with semi-adaptive cruise control.

Crosscamp has not yet released pricing information for the electric Flex. Later, the company intends to release an EV version of the Crosscamp Lite, which eliminates the kitchenette to increase interior space.

The Crosscamp Flex makes its debut just one day after Renault announced the Hippie Caviar Motel electric van. The model is based on the Kangoo van and has a 120-horsepower (90-kilowatt) electric motor. In the WLTP cycle, the 45-kilowatt-hour battery provides an estimated range of 177 miles (285 kilometres).

Unfortunately, Renault does not provide many details about the interior amenities of the Hippie Caviar Motel. The rear seat converts to a bed. The ski rack does not obstruct the view from the roof’s panoramic glass panel.

The company also hasn’t said whether it plans to put this vehicle into production or if it’s just a showcase of what an electric camper van can do.
