Paramount Marauder Mark 2 Debuts As Even More Rugged Military Transport

The Paramount Group is a military contractor based in South Africa, and the company bills its Marauder armoured truck as the “World’s Most Unstoppable Vehicle” after making such a claim on BBC’s Top Gear. To ensure that the rig can back up that bold claim, a Mark 2 version with even more capability is now available.

The main difference between the Marauder Mark 2 and the original is that they all now ride on a universal hull. A customer can switch the steering position from left to right (or vice versa) in about two hours using the available interchangeable dashboard modules. This allows operators to adapt the vehicle to different markets even after it has been delivered.

Vehicles like this are designed for functionality rather than aesthetics. The Marauder is a big, boxy beast. Because windows can be weak points, they are small. Each side has a spare wheel.

The Marauder has room for a driver and co-driver, as well as up to nine passengers. The vehicle’s double-hulled monocoque protects it from an explosion of up to 17.64 pounds (8 kilogrammes) of TNT beneath the vehicle. The side can withstand bullets fired from a 7.62x51mm NATO armor-piercing cartridge. Anti-blast seats provide additional protection on the inside.

The video above from Paramount only mentions the Marauder Mark 2’s six-cylinder turbodiesel engine, with no further information. The vehicle has a top speed of 68 miles per hour (110 kilometres per hour) and a total range of 435 miles (700 kilometers)

The Marauder has a payload capacity of 9,921 pounds (4,500 kilograms). It’s small enough to be transported by C-130 cargo plane or Chinook transport helicopter.

The Marauder can be outfitted for a variety of purposes by Paramount. There are ambulance, anti-armor, infantry support, and command vehicle configurations in addition to the standard armoured personnel carrier. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Congo, Gabon, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Singapore are among the current customers.
