Tesla Model X Kills Another Supercar At The Drag Strip

It’s now a question of “by how much?” instead of which won.

Teslas will always be a part of the conversation when it comes to the world’s fastest cars. The Model S Plaid amazes people with its figures and real-world tests, while the Model X Plaid, its crossover cousin, is just around the ballpark with its massive power output from three electric motors.

So much so that Teslas have been outracing supercars at drag strips, as evidenced by this video from YouTube’s DragTimes. The Tesla Model X Plaid, a reportedly family EV crossover, is pitted against an Italian supercar, the Lamborghini Huracan Evo. (Stylerecap)

On paper, this drag race appears to be a mismatch. The Tesla here produces 1,020 horsepower (761 kilowatts) and corresponding instantaneous torque. The Lamborghini, on the other hand, has a 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces 630 horsepower (463 kW).

Both sprint on all four paws, but the weight disparity compensates for the power deficit. The Huracan Evo is significantly lighter than the 5,333-pound (2,419-kilogram) Model X, thanks to enormous weight savings over its predecessor. As a result, their power-to-weight ratios are similar.

There were two races, both won by the Model X Plaid. It finished the quarter-mile sprint both under 10 seconds, which was a feat considering that its battery is already around 78 percent during the races.

While we normally don’t reveal the results of the races in the drag races we cover, we can tell you that the Model X Plaid completely demolished the Huracan Evo in this one. “By how much?” is now the question.

By the way, DragTimes’ next drag race video will feature the Huracan Evo taking on the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which the Model X Plaid had already defeated. Isn’t that a more even playing field?
