Upcoming Mahindra SUVs In Next 1-2 Years

In the last two years, Mahindra has introduced the new Thar and the XUV700. Car consumers have responded enthusiastically to both models. The new Thar and the XUV700 are now on backorder for more than a year. In fact, Mahindra saw a YOY increase of over 80% last month, with over 27K units sold. Mahindra wants to debut five new SUVs in the country in 2022 and 2023 in order to boost sales even more.

1. New Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra is preparing to debut the latest generation Scorpio in India ahead of the Diwali festival season. The new Mahindra Scorpio has already been spotted on Indian roads multiple times. It’s expected to be unveiled around June 2022, with a launch somewhere in August. The outside and interior of the new model will be totally redesigned, as well as new engine options.

The new model will be available in a 6- or 7-seat configuration, with the former including captain seats in the second row. A 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine are likely to be featured in the Mahindra Scorpio in 2022. The diesel engine is expected to come in two tunes: 130bhp/300Nm and close to 155bhp/360Nm. A 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission are likely options. The higher-end models will also get a 4×4 drivetrain, as well as terrain and driving modes.

2. Mahindra E-KUV100

The electric version of Mahindra’s KUV100 will be available in the country soon. The new eKUV100 is the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle in the country. It has a 15.9-kilowatt-hour battery pack that powers an electric motor. The electric motor has a power output of 54.4 horsepower (40 kW) and a torque output of 120 Nm. The battery can be charged to 100% using a standard charger in 5 hours and 45 minutes. Using a fast charger, the battery can be charged to 80% in 55 minutes. The car is said to have a range of up to 150 kilometres, but Mahindra is working on improving the battery’s range. The Mahindra eKUV100 will be priced between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 13 lakh.

3. Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

Mahindra is putting the XUV300 sub-4 metre SUV through its paces. The new Mahindra XUV300 facelift is expected to debut before the end of 2022, with updated interiors and a bolder look. The SUV is expected to feature an all-new entertainment system with a fresh interface within the interior. It might get the upgraded AdrenoX infotainment system from Visteon, which we’ve already seen on the new XUV700.

The 2019 XUV300 facelift will have a larger, bolder grille with larger vertical chrome slats, new wheels, updated taillights, full LED headlamps, and a new Mahindra emblem, among other changes. A new 1.2-litre mStallion engine with 130bhp and 230Nm of torque will be available on the new model. The 110bhp, 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine will continue to be offered in the lesser models. The same 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine will be featured in the Mahindra XUV300 facelift.

4. 5 Door Mahindra Thar

Mahindra is developing a five-door version of the Thar SUV, which is expected to debut in 2023. It will be the Thar with the large wheelbase. The SUV will get a beefier front bumper, wider steel wheels, and a longer rear section, among other visual changes. The SUV will be powered by the same 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines as the Thar. These engines, on the other hand, will be modified to provide higher power and torque. A 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission will be available. (www.thenines.com)

5. E-XUV300 Electric (XUV400)

Mahindra has begun testing a new electric version of the XUV300, rumoured to be known as the Mahindra XUV400. It will be the first model to be built on Mahindra Electric’s MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture) platform. Two battery pack configurations were available for the eXUV300 concept: 350V and 380V. The lower-spec vehicle will compete with the Nexon EV, while the higher-spec model will compete with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV. It will be the first electric vehicle to use LG Chem’s battery cells, which were built specifically for the Indian market.
