US: Ford Mustang Mach-E Sales Down Significantly In February 2022

The volume dropped by almost half year-over-year. What is happening?

In February, the Ford brand sold 123,350 vehicles in the United States (down 20.9 percent year-over-year). The total for the year is 261,141. (also down, by 10.5 percent ).

In this context, the business reported electrified vehicle – xEVs (BEVs, PHEVs, HEVs) sales of 8,984 (Ford and Lincoln brands), a 3.1 percent year-over-year decrease. That’s more than 6.9% of the group’s total volume.

“Ford sales of electrified vehicles increased 55.3 percent through February, providing a record start to Ford’s electrified vehicles. Growing at a faster rate than the overall segment, Ford’s electrified vehicle conquest rates climbed to 54 percent 13 percentage points higher than year ago.”

Let us now turn our attention to electric vehicle sales, which are our primary concern.

Mustang Mach-E (Ford Mustang Mach-E)

The number of Ford Mustang Mach-Es sold in February was 2,001, which is down 46.5 percent from February 2021.

We had thought that the Mach-E would improve, given the tremendous demand, but the firm is plainly having production issues. We learned that production was halted in February due to a shortage of semiconductors, implying that the situation is unlikely to improve considerably in the near future.

Despite this, the Ford Mustang Mach-E accounted for 1.6 percent of overall Ford sales in the United States.

In the United States, the gross stock of Mach-E is at 3,500 (at dealerships and in transport, we think), down from 4,700 in December.

Ford Mustang Mach-E sales in the U.S. – February 2022

Unfortunately, sales of other plug-in vehicles, such as the Ford Escape PHEV, are not reported by Ford. Lincoln’s PHEV sales were also kept under wraps.

What we do know is that the first Ford E-Transit vans were on sale in February. In the United States, over 10,000 were ordered.

Ford Mustang Mach-E production – February 2022

In Mexico, production of the Ford Mustang Mach-E reached 4,755, which is lower than the average for 2021, but at least 24% higher than February 2021 – despite supply difficulties.

In Mexico, the Ford Mustang Mach-E was produced in excess of 81,000 units. We believe that the majority (at least half) of the autos were shipped to Europe.

The figures exclude a tiny number of the initial Mach-Es manufactured and sold in China.

Ford will release its third all-electric vehicle, the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup, later this year.
